“Sex is, scientifically speaking, excellent for our health.”
“Ooh. All that science talk makes me hot,” she murmured.
He pounced, lifting her up off the chair and into his arms so fast she never saw him move. She wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist and laughed when he prowled across the room with her until her back hit the wall.
“How hot?” His lips were at her neck, her cheek, her lips.
“So, so hot.” She let her head fall back against the wall. And she fell, burning, into a cataclysm of need. Of want.
Reminding herself it could never be an emotion far more powerful than either.
One night.
Light and sound spun in waves inside her and around her and she couldn’t catch her breath, didn’t want to breathe unless it was to inhale his scent and his heat and his desire.
Breathing hard, he raised his head, rested his forehead on hers. “Meara,” he rasped. “If you want me to stop, tell me. Tell me, and quickly, or I will take you right here and now.”
"I can't tell you to stop. I don't want you to stop." She took his face in her hands and stared into his molten silver eyes, need warring with despair inside her. "But I can never be yours. If you accept we can be together just this one time, then I don't want you to stop."
His eyes narrowed. “If you think you'll be able to leave me after we make love, you're dead wrong. Maybe even delirious. I'll do everything in my power to make you rethink that ultimatum."
She managed a smile at his arrogance, even as it aroused her. "We'll get it out of our systems. No way is sex with you as good as I'm imagining."
A slow, predatory smile spread across his face. "Yes. Yes, it will be."
He bent his head to hers again, but she stopped him with a hand on his chest, needing to know that he understood. "Are you sure? I'll just be using you for sex."
Edge's eyes lit up with wicked glee. "To hell with all that scientific training. There is a God."
